Lila and Bob, who was from Staten Island, NY, were married in Mexico in 1945.
Lila lived in Sturgis with her parents while Bob was overseas with the Navy Air Corps.
She and Bob moved to Staten Island in 1947, where they raised their two children.
The couple moved to Milford, NJ, in 1972, and then back to Sturgis in 1985, when Bob retired.
Bill started out working at Sturgis Livestock when he was in high school, as well as breaking and training horses, which he continued to do for his entire life-time.
After the family moved back to Sturgis, Bill ranched with his father and worked at Wheeler Lumber and Bridge in Whitewood, SD. In 1985, Bill opened up his welding and repair shop at the family home.
She received a reward for serving 1800 hours with the RSVP.
Lila grew up in and attended school through the seventh grade in Mud Butte, SD, and went to eighth grade and high school in Sturgis, SD.This included a "Make a Difference Day" drive that was recognized by the national "Make a Difference Day" committee.Lila passed away on November 30, 2017, in Albuquerque, NM.After her high school graduation in 1940, she attended the University of Minnesota.She lived in California from 1942-1945, working at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach during WWII.
